The 1965 movie, Doctor Zhivago, is not only an exquisite drama but is also the 8th biggest grossing film of all time. The movie won 5 Oscars, including for Best Costume Design. In charge of the beautiful wardrobe was Phyllis Dalton who did a wonderful job.
“To be a woman is a great adventure; To drive men mad is a heroic thing.”
Julie Christie plays the part of Lara, a stunning woman, who manages to capture every man's attention. Her blonde hair and blue eyes were a delight to see and her wardrobe was just as beautiful. The white shirt with black tie is among one of my favorite outfits.
The red dress below was the most famous ensemble from the movie, but actress Julie Christie hated wearing it and she even refused to put it on.Finally, the production designer convinced her after saying how absolutely beautiful she looks in it.
"There are two kinds of men and only two. And that young man is one kind. He is high-minded. He is pure. He's the kind of man the world pretends to look up to, and in fact despises. He is the kind of man who breeds unhappiness, particularly in women. Do you understand?"
“I don't think I could love you so much if you had nothing to complain of and nothing to regret. I don't like people who have never fallen or stumbled. Their virtue is lifeless and of little value. Life hasn't revealed its beauty to them.”
“How wonderful to be alive, he thought. But why does it always hurt?”
The second female character,Tonya, is played by none other then Charlie Chaplin's daughter, Geraldine Chaplin.Although Julie Christie is also wearing fur coats and hats in the movie, Geraldine's fur ensembles are the best ones.
“I don't like people who have never fallen or stumbled. Their virtue is lifeless and of little value. Life hasn't revealed its beauty to them.”
I still can't get over her pink and blue ensemble!
“I hate everything you say, but not enough to kill you for it.”
