Eventhough it recieved mostly negative reviews, the 2014 movie about the legendary actress, Grace of Monaco, was a winner in the costume department.The movie presents Grace Kelly's life during her marriage to Prince Rainier III of Monaco and her costumes are truly worth of a princess.In charge of the movie's wardrobe was costume designer Gigi Lepage who looked in the archieve of the most famous designers during that time and she designed a part of the dresses that were very much inspired by the ones in the photos from the archieves.Brands like Dior, Chanel and Hermès also contributed to the movie's fashion.
Chanel offered a suit from the 2012 fall haute couture collection and the skirt was altered to fit the look of the film.Christian Dior recreated two suits inspired by the ones designed by Marc Bohan, the creative director of the fashion house at that time.The shoes were by Salvatore Ferragamo and Jimmy Choo and the jewelry by Bvlgari.
An interesting fact about the hats is that they were the creation of Alexandre Barthet, the son of Jean Barthet, who was actually the original milliner of Grace of Monaco.
Grace used to wear a lot of scarves and for the movie, the french fashion house Hermès, supplied the silk scarves but also helped with the Kelly handbags (for those of you who don't know, while Grace was pregnant she used to cover her growing belly from the paparazzi and they eventually named it after her).
This ivory dress was inspired by a design made by Antonio del Castillo for Lanvin from 1956 that was also matched with the sash, star and the badge of Monaco's Order of Saint-Charles.The gloves sge wore were made by Maison Fabre.
This blue dress embellished with Swarovski crystals that she wore to the Red Cross ball was also based on a design by Jean Dessès.
